McAfee Virus Scan 2009 Review
May 19, 2009 by AntivirusWare.
McAfee is one of the big names in home security software, along with Symantec and their line of Norton Antivirus software. Our recent review of McAfee VirusScan Plus was a mix of good and not-so-good.
The good news is that McAfee 2009 (view McAfee VirusScan screenshots) proved itself to fairly effective at removing viruses and other malware from your computer. It scored 2 out of 3 stars in tests performed by AV-Comparatives… this puts McAfee slightly ahead of the average antivirus program.
Our Antivirus Performance Tests of McAfee were not so good as its effectiveness testing above. Our performance testing showed that McAfee 2009 ranked near the bottom of the pack - finishing 7th out of top 10 programs, while our review of Norton Antivirus showed it as the class act of 2009 Antivirus software finishing first overall. Other strong contenders were NOD32 Antivirus and Kaspersky Antivirus software.
You can also view our tests of McAfee’s Install Time (117s), Antivirus Scan Times (84min), and Virus Definition Updates per Day (1.2 average), and see how McAfee compared to other antivirus software.
