Trusted Is Earned: Trusted Websites

October 11, 2008 by Antivirus Ware.com

You’ve probably heard the old saying about trust not being given until it is earned. Trusted websites carry the same responsibility that the adage admonishes us to take with those we do not know or whom we have not given the opportunity to gain our trust. Whether it is an online school or e-commerce site, there are trust factors that you should not only come to expect but require before you engage in committing your personal information to such sites.

What exactly is a trusted web site? How can you protect your computer from web sites you don’t trust? First, a trusted web site is one that has taken the necessary measures to ensure that their sight has high level security which discourages hackers and takes every precaution possible to protect the private information you entrust to their site. Many e-commerce web sites often place a banner on their site indicated they are trusted and how they can protect your information. Protecting your computer from web sites that you do not trust is simple. Open a browser and click TOOLS-INTERNET OPTIONS-SECURITY-TRUSTED SITES. Initially there are no trusted sites and the security setting may be low. Higher security settings provide more security so choose the highest setting that suits you. Next, click SITES and add the URL of sites you trust. This manual entry option can also be used to create a list of restricted sites, such as ones with identified spyware & viruses that you do not want to access your computer.
