Are You Protected: Virus Protection Programs

October 2, 2008 by Antivirus Ware.com

Would you leave home without locking the door or turning off the coffeemaker? Chances are you would not. Your computer requires the same protection to maintain optimal performance. The best way to protect your computer is to invest in a quality virus protection program.  Many options are available ranging from free to most expensive. If you cannot afford an anti-virus program such as MacAfee or Norton, check with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to see if there is an anti-virus program offered to subscribers for free or at a small additional cost that can be rolled into your bill.

If your ISP does not provide a program, search for free virus protection programs online. Beware of websites that claim to offer a free scan of your computer for viruses as some of these sites contain spyware and return false results just to get you to purchase their software. A good virus protection program, whether free or for cost, must provide a few essential elements in order to keep your computer safe.

The program should be scheduled to scan your computer’s entire contents daily. This is important because new viruses are being developed on a daily basis. In addition to the daily scan for viruses on your computer, the program should be configured to check the website where you downloaded the program for updates to the virus list. This is also important because your computer cannot detect new viruses if the resident virus list on your computer has not been updated.
