Social Networking Sites and Viruses

Social networking websites are growing at an incredibly rapid pace. Millions of people both young and old have flocked to these websites; many people even have membership with more than one social networking site. What these people do not realize, however, is that there are two types of issues that can arise revolving around eSecurity. First, your password can be stolen, easily. Second, you may catch a virus. Without eSecurity tools, like anti virus software, you will miss both of these issues.

Social networking sites have profiles that require a user name and password. This information is put on a secure connection to ensure that it is not stolen. People who want to steal your information have become crafty, however, and will create pop-up windows that look exactly like the social website; these carbon copies ask you to re-“sign in” to the website. If you do not notice, you type in your information, and it is taken. eSecurity tools help point these pop-ups to you, or simply block pop ups completely.

Social networking sites are also a breeding ground for virus’ and spyware. If you see links on someone’s profile, or posted to your profile (through a wall post or message post), do not click on them; some spam bots manage to get viruses and spyware to others by simply getting you to click links. With eSecurity, however, this can be blocked, even with an accidental click.
