Do you feel that you know enough about your computer and the security of it? You might be surprised at what else there is to know regarding security issues on the internet.  That’s why it’s never a bad idea to keep educating oneself about the subject.  Everyday, some new threat rears its ugly head on the internet and if you’re unaware of the threat, you could easily be the victim of an attack and incur some serious damage to your computer’s operating system.

What it boils down to is the major technical areas of a computer’s operating system, or the CIA of computer security issues.  In this case the letters “CIA” do not stand for the Central Intelligence Agency.  We’re talking about Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability.  Additionally, other issues revolve around access controls and non-repudiation.  Here is how the CIA breaks down:

Confidentiality means that your information (privacy) cannot be accessed by other internet users.  Integrity infers that your information is protected against any changes that you don’t authorize.  Availability refers you authorizing the use or access to your information.  Now, more than ever before, the availability issue has become the critical issue because the individual needs to have complete control over what information is collected about them.

Information shared on the internet is in an electronic format, and this is what has enabled the linking together of the information to form a composite of information that can easily be attacked or stolen.  This involves a person’s searching habits on the internet and unveils their information for all to see.
