Computer Insecurity and Related Issues

When a computer’s operating system has only limited or minimal security applications and precautions in place, this is defined as “computer insecurity” and creates a great deal of risk for the system and the user as well.

Designs of Security Systems

Today, most security systems treat the computer system as a “trusted system” and generally focus on external attacks and security risks.  This is oftentimes considered to be a hazardous mistake by many experts who point out that the chief cause of most computer insecurity issues in existence today has resulted from this distinction.  Once an attacker has invaded an “insecure” part of a system, they usually have access to the rest of the system components as well.

Financial Costs Incurred

The most serious consequence of computer security breaches is the financial damage that can be caused as a result of the intrusion.  Unfortunately, it is way too difficult the total amount of damage in dollars and cents.  Some feel that estimates get exaggerated but one thing is for certain, and that is that figures run in the billions of dollars regarding the damage that malware has caused and continues to cause on an ongoing basis.

Reasons behind the Dilemma

When it comes to computer versus physical security issues, there are a lot of similarities.  However, there are a lot of fundamental differences.  The motivation behind attacks on computers varies between hackers, just as they do when you’re dealing with real-world security.  Some are teenage vandals that live for defacing websites and/or making political statements.  However, the majority of the attackers live for one thing and one thing only — compromising a system for the purposes of financial gain.
