Spyware, Adware, and Tracking Issues
July 22, 2008 by Antivirus Ware.com - Download Norton Antivirus software instantly! If you’re seeing all types of advertising banners when you visit sites on the internet, chances are, you’re a victim of Adware. Advertising-supported software or Adware as it is most commonly referred to is any advertising material that automatically displays, downloads, or plays on your computer without your consent. As an alternative to Shareware fees, a program called Eudora mail client displays advertisements as an alternative to the aforementioned fees.
Adware can be classified as Spyware (programs that install themselves on your computer and then monitor your activities), but not from an advertising supportive standpoint. Adware occurs due to sites you have visited or ads that you have looked at while online. When your computer is infected, other Spyware programs are usually running in the background and are reporting what websites that you visit to the user responsible for that Spyware being on your computer. The data is then compiled and used for targeted advertisement impressions.
There is certain Spyware that comes bundled with free, advertising supported programs, and of course, you have no knowledge of its presence until all the related problems start occurring. The harsh reality is that even the individuals who know that this happens are stilling willing to download these risky programs. Another dilemma is created with anti-Spyware and antivirus programs in that their removal tools may inadvertently disable a program that you want or need to run on your computer. The bottom line though is that if it is a free program, don’t download it to your computer!
