We have all had Internet Explorer 7 for a while now and we have finally gotten used to it. Looming on the horizon is the emergence of Internet Explorer 8, which Microsoft is branding as the safest and most secure web browser to date. Nobody buys into the hype without just thinking about it first, but with two promising new security features Internet Explorer 8 may live up to the hype.
The new security enhancements that were added to Internet Explorer 8 involve a safety filter tool and a domain highlighting feature.
The safety filter tool is designed to protect users against phishing attacks. This tool analyzes the entire URL string and searches for signs that are hidden but indicate the site is fraudulent. The tool also gives IT administrators the ability to block sites that are known to be unsafe.
The domain highlighting feature will highlight the top level domain in an address bar. This feature will provide an obvious indicator that they are on the site they want to visit. The site’s name will be in a bold, black font that is distinguishable from other characters listed in the URL. This will make it significantly easier for users to sort out all the characters in a URL to determine they are on the correct site.
