Manage your Passwords More Efficiently
June 21, 2008 by Antivirus Ware.com - Download Norton Antivirus software instantly! We have all been there, trying to remember a password we created for a website and having absolutely no idea what we chose. So many people have to write their passwords down and tape them to their computer desk and others simply never delete their welcome e-mails from the sites they join. There are better and more secure ways of managing your online passwords, and with a little time and creativity you can create a more secure Internet for yourself.
First, when you are creating your passwords be creative and think outside the box. Don’t use your name, birth date or address in your password. Additionally, never use obvious things like the word ‘password’ or the sequence 1, 2, 3, 4. Your password should have seven or eight characters, because the longer it is the more secure it will be. You want to choose something that would appear to be random to someone else and use upper and lower case letters, along with characters if the website allows.
Next, when you are asked to fill out information for reminder questions for when you forget your password be creative. Never use your mother’s actual maiden name, your real pet’s name or the actual city of your birth. These are all things people can figure out fairly easily.
Finally, once you have settled on passwords make sure that you use a password manager to store passwords rather than writing them down or saving them in your e-mail. An anti-virus program, such as Norton, can also be a useful ally to protect your passwords and other confidential information on your computer.
